B2Gold is an international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. The Company currently has three operating gold mines and numerous exploration and development projects in various countries including Mali, Namibia, Colombia and the Philippines.
Introduction
The Regional CSR Manager will fulfill the corporate social responsibility mandate for B2Gold at the project level in West Africa with the aim to build strong support and consent for the development of future mine projects while driving positive long-term outcomes for local communities near B2Gold’s Fekola Mine in Mali. The position will manage multi-stakeholder engagement and relations, socio-economic impact management and community development, related strategic partnerships, and social management plans at B2Gold’s development projects. The position must also collaborate with and support the Fekola Mine Community Relations Department and function. The position will also develop and manage the implementation of significant regional community development projects.
The Regional CSR Manager will be a self-directed professional with excellent project management skills and who is comfortable working across multiple disciplines in a remote and fast-paced environment where there is frequent change.
Location and Reporting Manager
The position will report to the Development Project Manager on day-to-day operational and administrative matters, will support the regional Exploration Manager and the Fekola Mine General Manager where relevant, and report to the B2Gold Corporate CSR Manager on strategic and technical matters. This position will be based at B2Gold’s Fekola Mine in Mali, Africa on an 8/4 fly in-fly out rotation schedule. Regional travel will be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fulfill the Corporate CSR mandate at the project level with regards to B2Gold’s CSR policies, standards and commitments;
Manage a Regional Community Relations Department, including hiring, development and management of staff, consultants, and contractors;
Support project permitting efforts including:
Ensuring the completion of socio-economic baseline and impact assessment, and management plan development, for project ESIA & ESMP,
Directing processes for land acquisition and physical and/or economic displacement, including asset survey and inventory, delivery of compensation frameworks, and resettlement planning and execution.
Identify, analyze, and manage project risks related to social impacts. Develop and manage relevant CSR strategies and action/management plans related to social issues such as:
stakeholder engagement
grievance and conflict management
community development and investment,
local employment and local procurement
land acquisition and resettlement
artisanal and small-scale mining
indigenous peoples and cultural heritage
human rights
social closure planning
Manage data and information and monitor social performance metrics and indicators;
Oversee the Social Impact Management System at project level;
Oversee Departmental reporting including routine project reporting and monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and presentations to Corporate management, as required;
Collaborate as needed with the Fekola Mine (i.e., General Manager, Community Relations and other relevant Departments) and the B2Gold Bamako office representatives to support relevant B2Gold activities and objectives;
Travel to current and future operations and projects of B2Gold, as required;
Execute training and capacity building for CSR skills and strategy as required;
Prepare and manage CSR budgets and schedules at project level;
Maintain current on industry best practice and international performance standards related to social issues; and
Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.
Requirements
Degree in International Development, Social Science, or a relevant field;
At least 10 years of relevant experience, with 3 years in a management role level;
International working experience;
Experience in the mining industry or extractive sector;
Experience in managing internal teams and consultants, directly;
Strong knowledge, expertise, and understanding of the application and implementation of IFC Performance Standards and related international standards;
Demonstrated ability to scale and apply strategies to local environments and different cultures;
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with all levels of internal and external stakeholders;
Ability to work with minimum supervision and manage multiple demands;
Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project); and
Strong English and French written, verbal and presentation skills, required.
