B2Gold is an international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. The Company currently has three operating gold mines and numerous exploration and development projects in various countries including Mali, Namibia, Colombia and the Philippines.
Introduction
The Regional CSR Senior Superintendent is a Corporate Social Responsibility management position, fully dedicated to project implementation at the field level to support B2Gold’s mine development projects near its Fekola Mine in Mali, with the aim to build strong support and consent for the development of future mine project’s while driving positive long-term outcomes for local communities. The position will manage or contribute to multi-stakeholder engagement and relations, socio-economic impact management and community development, related strategic partnerships, and social management plans at B2Gold’s development projects. The position must also collaborate with and support the Fekola Mine Community Relations Department and function.
The Regional CSR Senior Superintendent will be a self-directed professional with excellent project management skills and who is comfortable working across multiple disciplines in a remote and fast-paced environment where there is frequent change.
Location and Reporting Manager
The position will report to the Regional CSR Manager on day-to-day operational and administrative matters and collaborate with and support other B2Gold managers and departments as required (e.g., B2Gold Corporate, Fekola Mine, Exploration). This position will be based at B2Gold’s Fekola Mine in Mali, Africa on an 8/4 fly in-fly out rotation schedule. Regional travel will be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Implement community relations initiatives related to mine development projects, including:
Socio-economic baseline and impact assessment, and management plan development, for greenfield mine project ESIA & ESMP;
Stakeholder engagement, including with surrounding communities, vulnerable persons and artisanal and small-scale miners;
Grievance management; and,
Monthly and quarterly reporting.
As part of a team, identify, analyze, and manage project risks related to social impacts. Contribute to the development of and execute relevant CSR strategies and action/management plans related to social issues such as:
stakeholder engagement
grievance and conflict management
community development and investment,
local employment and local procurement
land acquisition and resettlement
artisanal and small-scale mining
indigenous peoples and cultural heritage
human rights
social closure planning
Maintain the Social Impact Management System for management processes including stakeholder engagement, risk/issue/incident management, grievance management, and land acquisition and resettlement;
Facilitate various risk assessment and audit processes including the development and implementation of corrective actions, such as:
social standards audits
human rights risk assessments
voluntary principles on security and human rights risk assessments
investigation of social incidents.
Produce and/or contribute to CSR Departmental reporting and support reporting to Corporate management;
Collaborate as needed with the Fekola Mine (i.e., General Manager, Community Relations and other relevant Departments) and the B2Gold Bamako office representatives to support relevant B2Gold activities and objectives;
Carry out the above functions in accordance to B2Gold’s Social Policy and Social Performance Standards;
Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives. These responsibilities may vary from time to time, as determined by the needs of the Company.
Requirements
Degree in International Development, Social Science, or a relevant field;
At least 5 years of relevant experience;
International working experience;
Experience in the mining industry or extractive sector;
Experience in managing internal teams and consultants directly;
Strong knowledge, expertise, and understanding of the application and implementation of IFC Performance Standards and related international standards;
Demonstrated ability to scale and apply strategies to local environments and different cultures;
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with all levels of internal and external stakeholders;
Ability to work with minimum supervision and manage multiple demands;
Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project); and
Strong English and French written, verbal and presentation skills, required.
