Job Title: Financial Controller

Direct supervisor : Finance & Administration Manager - Mali


 


OBJECTIVE :


 The Financial Controller is responsible for assisting the Finance and Administration Manager in managing and coordinating Lithium du Mali's general reporting requirements, including statutory (OHADA) reports, external IFRS reports, tax reports and special requests from regional/national group and corporate entities.


In doing so, the Financial Controller will participate in the review and approval of OHADA trial balances, OHADA fixed asset reconciliations and tax calculations, monthly GL account reconciliations, and will also prepare/develop templates and analyses for new and special projects and specific requests for information from headquarters. The Financial Controller will manage the reporting team in terms of IFRS and OHADA reporting.


The Financial Controller will also assist the Finance & Administration Manager - Mali in managing and coordinating the financial planning, budgeting and cost reporting processes of Lithium du Mali. In doing so, the Financial Controller will compile monthly management accounting reports, compile budgets and cash flow forecasts, prepare variance analysis reports, monitor actuals against budgets, among other tasks assigned by the Finance & Administration Manager, including filling in for the Finance & Administration Managers role when he/she is absent.


The Financial Controller will also participate in the ERP implementation and will be responsible for ensuring that ERP process/procedure documentation is prepared and maintained and that internal controls are followed at all times.


 


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :


Review monthly OHADA trial balances and their reconciliation to IFRS for Leo Lithium's Malian entities, including but not limited to reconciliation of fixed asset records,

Review financial data from statutory reports (transfer pricing report, DNGM report),

Implement a formal system for the budgeting and tax forecasting process for use in the quarterly forecasts,

Perform life of mine tax calculations including comparisons to other mine plans, review and explain variances and recalculate budgets for quarterly forecasts,

Prepare and maintain quarterly income tax calculation workbook (for current and deferred taxes) for reporting purposes and estimate cash taxes for forecasting and budgeting purposes,

Prepare tax rate reconciliations on an annual basis and submit for review, Support the Director of Finance and Administration in tax planning and risk management, conducting tax research, performing income tax audits and providing internal tax advice on transactions,

Participate and provide support during external audits,

Generate continuous improvement initiatives related to OHADA and tax reporting and advise the CFO/Administration Director from time to time,

Plan, coordinate and execute major tax projects as directed by senior management from time to time,

Review, with the tax/customs specialist, the completeness and accuracy of monthly VAT, withholding taxes and other taxes,

Monitor, with the tax specialist, tax records and report on monthly and quarterly VAT, withholding tax and income tax returns and payments,

Review monthly accruals for customs, taxes, freight and construction,

Review general accruals, including old accruals to be cancelled, new accruals, and open purchase order accruals, on a monthly basis,

Review monthly reconciliations for GRNI, Freight Clearing, and Prepaid Customs Duty accounts,

Review monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, trade creditors and other key accounts as required,

Prepare quarter end reporting schedules including but not limited to inventory valuations, vacation pay, severance pay, normal salaries, fixed assets, work in progress and taxes,

Review annual models for revising the useful lives & residual values of assets, including quarterly updates & reports,

Review templates for IFRS 16 reporting, including quarterly IFRS 16 trial balances & posted adjusting entries,

Assist financial and project accountant(s) with quarterly capital expenditure reconciliations (capital costs and stage of completion) for additions to the asset register,

Review monthly and quarterly production schedules (mine physicals, mill physicals and metal sales records,

Assist the financial accountant(s) in the monthly accrual of taxes, duties and royalties related to sales,

Prepare & record monthly payroll cost entries, including regular wages, vacation pay, severance pay and production bonuses,

Verify monthly aging of inter-company accounts payable,

Prepare and process invoices for inter-company cost returns between Leo Lithium entities in Mali,

Review and update, as necessary, the internal control narratives of Lithium of Mali,

Conduct and report on quarterly internal controls testing programs,

Develop & implement programs to remediate control deficiencies & ensure compliance with internal controls,

Actively participate in the preparation of new and updated site financial procedures and policies,

Prepare/compile/generate weekly and monthly operational cost variance reports,

Review general ledger account transactions for completeness and coding accuracy,

Oversee and review capital work in progress, including capital expenditure tracking and variance reporting,

Compile and track monthly accruals for capital and operating expenditures,

Prepare monthly analysis schedules including but not limited to capital assets, capital expenditures, working capital and administrative cost variances,

Prepare/compile/generate monthly operational inventory reports for production, sales and inventory, Manage the tracking and posting to ERP of monthly quantity accounts including, but not limited to, physical controls of production, headcount and sales,

Assist in the preparation of inventory valuations (warehouse & metal), depreciation & stripping cost capitalizations,

Assist in the preparation of the operating & capital budgets for each fiscal year with key stakeholders,

Assist in the periodic updating of mine life models,

Assist in the communication of approved financial plans and forecasts to relevant stakeholders,

Participate in continuous improvement projects,

Participate in site ERP implementation and financial process optimization projects,

Actively participate in the development and training of finance team personnel.

Geological and Hydrogeological Mining Companies in the Republic of Mali in force

Place of employment: Goulamina

Starting date: As soon as possible after the publication of this recruitment notice

Nature of the contract: CDI

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :


Graduate degree in accounting.

Professional certification in accounting - Chartered Accountant or equivalent - is strongly preferred.

At least 7 years of relevant post-qualification experience, mostly in the mining industry, covering OHADA/IFRS reporting, management accounting and internal controls

At least 4 years’ experience working in an IFRS environment is required.

Prior experience using ERP systems (Pronto or SAP preferred)

 


KEY COMPETENCIES :


 


Fluency in French and English is essential,

Good knowledge of current Malian tax and corporate law, as well as accounting standards and financial reporting requirements in West Africa (OHADA, SYSCOA),

Specialized knowledge of cost accounting and financial modeling of mining projects,

Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously,

Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks, including showing initiative and confidence in dealing with other stakeholders,

Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, management and subcontractors as required.
