Summary:

The work schedule for this position is:

Duties

Serves as advisor on protocol matters to the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission, and other mission officials. Organizes events sponsored by the Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission and attends all scheduled events to ensure smooth operations. Position is located at the U.S Embassy and works under the supervision of the Ambassador's Office Management Specialist.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Three years of progressive experience as assistant to ministerial level manager, translating English and French is required.


JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Basic understanding of protocol functions and of diplomatic environment is required, as well as good knowledge of U.S. protocol and etiquette. Must have a working knowledge of Malian government. Must understand Malian protocol, social, and cultural norms.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Economics, Political Affairs, or English is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:  


Fluency in English and French is required – Able to use the language fluently and accurately.  Able to conduct all work in English and French.


This may be tested.


Limited Knowledge of Bambara is required– Reasonable confidence in speaking Bambara and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements. Able to write simple texts and fill out forms. 


SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good organizational and interpersonal skills needed. Must be able to establish and maintain contacts with Malian Government officials. Tact and diplomacy, strong interpersonal, protocol skills; as well as organizational, project management, and time management skills required. Must be knowledgeable with contact databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
