 Job Summary 

 Provides technical expertise to members of the Country Office’s Management Team as they plan, develop, direct and coordinate effective security programs designed to identify and mitigate risk to employees, visitors, and material assets at multiple operating locations. Serves as the primary advisor to senior management regarding security matters in country. Leverages extensive subject matter expertise in the security arena to provide strategic guidance to the organization and/or assigned country. 

 Position Responsibilities 

Technical and Operational: 

  • Leads the security department for Mali Country Office projects. 
  • Collects, collates, analyzes, and appropriately disseminates security threat information. 
  • Prepares risk and threat assessment reports and recommendations to senior management and/or other staff as required. 
  • Prepares weekly security reports covering significant security-related incidents and provides analysis of how each event impacts the overall safety and security of personnel and operations. 
  • Prepare and deliver security briefings for movements throughout the zones of intervention (Areas where FHI 360 operates in country). 
  • Maintains good working relations with all external agencies including governmental and international agencies. Interacts with USAID, local government agencies, State Department, UN Security and other foreign agencies to implement security strategies and procedures related to organizational matters. 
  • Establishes and sustains close working relationships with managers and field-based personnel to exchange security information and provide advice. 
  • Complies with all applicable laws, statutes or standards from regulatory and accrediting agencies and FHI 360 policies and procedures. 
  • Monitors security conditions and conducts ongoing analysis of data received from both external and internal sources. 
  • Conducts training needs assessment with key stakeholders resulting in increased security management capacity. 
  • Reviews, prepares and updates country security and emergency action plans. As relevant, ensure plans are operational and regularly updated based on the context. 
  • Responds to all safety and security related incidents.  
  • Helps coordinate and action any suspension of activities, hibernations, relocations, or evacuations as needed. 
  • Provides coverage to Global Security Department in the region as requested by HQ. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Global Security Department, including administrative tasks. 




Minimum Requirements 

Technical & soft skills 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or International Equivalent in Security Administration or Related field. 
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of security experience in corporate, government or military sectors.  
  • Demonstrated experience with implementing security strategies, policies, procedures, and standards. 
  • Demonstrated experience with risk management assessments and mitigation implementation, including physical security and security operations and planning. 
  • Fluent French & English speaker. 
  • Strong spoken and written communication ability 
  • A strong customer service focus and ability to maintain confidentiality in a multicultural environment.
  • Work productively in a small team environment as well as individually 
  • Must be comfortable in operating in a high stress environments requiring short deadlines and be able to provide reasoned and immediate advice and assistance during emergencies with little or no supervision.
  • Availability to work on emergency situations during off- hours; if necessary, for extended periods of time. 

Supervision Given/Received:

Will report to country representative.

Language Requirements

Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English and country official and work language.
